From Humble Beginnings to Political Ambition: Hon Rose Apur’s Fight for Makongeni Ward

By Kelvin Malick

Hon Rose Apur’s journey to political leadership is a remarkable tale of courage, perseverance, and unyielding commitment to service. Born into a family struggling to meet basic needs in Makongeni Ward, Makadara Constituency, her early life was defined by scarcity, challenges, and hardship. Yet, these experiences did not dampen her ambition; rather, they fueled her resolve to one day lead and transform her community.

“Growing up in Makongeni without food or proper clothing never deterred my dreams of one day leading and improving the lives of my people,” Apur recounts.

Her life became even more complex at 17 when she became a mother. While many young women in similar situations might have abandoned their dreams, Apur embraced the responsibility as motivation to work harder and pursue a better future. By 18, she was already engaging in grassroots political initiatives, demonstrating early leadership qualities and a keen understanding of her community’s challenges.

In an in-depth conversation with Mutembei TV, Apur revealed that her personal experiences of poverty and early motherhood instilled in her a deep empathy for women and youth facing similar struggles. Witnessing mothers unable to provide for their children resonated with her profoundly and continues to shape her political vision.

“My ambition to lead is rooted in understanding the struggles women face daily and the urgent need to empower our youth,” she said.

Apur’s dedication extends beyond political rhetoric. She has been actively distributing food and other essential items to less fortunate residents of Makongeni Ward and has pledged to continue this support until she is elected in 2027. She assures residents that her service and advocacy for the vulnerable will continue even before assuming office.

Her journey has been sustained by both personal resilience and mentorship from influential leaders. She expressed sincere gratitude to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, and Makadara MP George Aladwa, crediting them for their guidance and encouragement.

Apur also emphasizes the role of faith in sustaining her journey. Trusting in God, she says, has allowed her to remain focused and resilient in the face of adversity.

Now vying for the Makongeni Ward Member of County Assembly seat under the Orange Democratic Movement, she aims to implement programs that empower women, provide youth opportunities, improve sanitation, and foster economic growth for small-scale traders.
To the residents of Makongeni, Apur embodies hope and determination. Her life story demonstrates that leaders shaped by adversity are uniquely equipped to empathize, inspire, and deliver meaningful change for the community they serve.

Her trajectory, from humble beginnings and early motherhood to a promising political career, illustrates the power of resilience, faith, and community service, making her candidacy one to watch closely in the 2027 elections.
