Raila Odinga International Stadium: A National Asset That Deserves Global Recognition, Not Political or Tribal Controversy
Raila Odinga International Stadium is a world-class sporting facility that represents a major milestone in Kenya's ambition to position itself as a leading sports and tourism destination in Africa. The stadium should not be viewed merely as a village or local sporting ground, but as a national investment designed to attract international sporting events, global audiences and economic opportunities.
An international-standard facility cannot achieve its full potential through local football fixtures alone. It must be exposed to high-profile international competitions, friendly matches and sporting events that attract global attention. Hosting two prominent European football clubs in Kenya would therefore provide an important opportunity to showcase the stadium's quality, infrastructure and capacity to the international sporting community.
Secondly, Kenya is preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), alongside Uganda and Tanzania. This presents an important opportunity for the country to demonstrate its readiness to host major international football tournaments. Such high-profile matches will provide a practical test of our sporting infrastructure, security arrangements, transport systems, hospitality services and overall event management capabilities.
